This report discusses telecom fibre deployments, carrier capex, and broadband access developments. The conclusions show how much the telecom industry’s fibre demand will be driven by FTTx projects and multimedia revenue opportunities. In 2007, FTTx applications consumed 43 million km of cabled fibre – half the amount installed for terrestrial telecom applications and 38% of all single-mode applications, including telecom, CATV, private network, and other non-telecom applications. In 2013, FTTx applications will use 72 million km of cabled fibre, which will be 43% of all single-mode applications.
