KMI's report on markets for Fiberoptics in Broadband Access Networks in North America, where FTTH construction is underway in big numbers, forecasts the demand for the active and passive optical products in various types of fiber-fed xDSL systems – FTTC, FTTB, or FTTN – as well as FTTP systems.

Demand forecasts through 2011 for FTTx transmission equipment, fiberoptic cable and fiberoptic apparatus. Coverage includes:

  • Fiber-based access network architectures: fiber-to-the-home or premises, fiber-to-the-building, fiber-to-the-curb, and fiber-to-the-node.
  • Fiberoptic products grouped into three main product families: optoelectronic transmission equipment, fiberoptic cable, and passive apparatus.
  • Products quantified in terms of units and market ($M) include OLTs, remote units, such as MSAPs or Ethernet aggregators, ONU/ONTs, splitters, closures, distribution hub or feeder cabinets, cable for feeder, distribution, and drop applications, and others.
  • Product market data also includes connectorized or preterminated OSP hardware and cable.
  • Separation of U.S. market into RBOCs and other “tiers” of operators for purposes of analyzing product prices and forecast factors.
