Cables Industry Analyst Monthly

CIA Monthly Issue
Feb 2010 Issue
Power Play

It is no accident that the bulk of this edition’s content is focused on prospects in the utility power cable market.  Our commentary and analysis section below features the content from a recently attended conference in Amsterdam on European transmission and distribution grid strategies.  Many of the central themes mentioned (interconnection, reinforcement, renewable energy, smart grid, OPGW, re-conductoring, undergrounding, and solar energy) can be found in the stories running through this 16 page issue.  Other more minor themes include the superior growth potential and sales margins being viewed in the mass transportation cable market segments such as railway, metro and train carriage, aerospace and airport cabling, marine and offshore cable sectors.  The resumption of growth in emerging markets also features with improving prospects being seen in the Brazilian and Indian markets this year.  And with China now crowned as the world’s leading auto assembler (by unit volume) in 2009 it is clear that the burden of dragging the world cable industry out of recession now falls squarely on the industrialising world.

In this issue we have trialled some new company result summary tables (see p11).  If you would prefer to see more content in this format (rather than text) please send us your feedback (jon.barnes@crugroup.com).
