Nickel Quarterly
Nickel Quarterly
2009 January Issue
Nadir or nemesis?

Nickel has settled into a sort of twilight zone.  Prices are far below the marginal costs of production and this is now having a dramatic effect on output, which has been falling faster than at any time in recent history.  Since prices are at such a low ebb, and are having such a salutary effect on nickel supply, the investor case for driving them still lower has become much less compelling.  At the same time nickel demand remains dire, so the case for much upside in price remains, to put it mildly, unpersuasive.
