The CRU Steel Price Index (CRUspi) indices are compiled from a weighted average of steel industry prices. In total, there are eight weighted indices:

  • Carbon Steel - six indices (CRUspi Global, CRUspi Flats, CRUspi longs, CRUspi North America, CRUspi Europe and CRUspi Asia)
  • Stainless Steel - one index (CRUspi Stainless)
  • Metallics (scrap, pig iron and DRI/HBI) - one index (CRUmpi)

CRU Monitors

The actual local currency/tonne steel prices that form the basis of the CRUspi indices are published in CRU's Monthly Monitor Series, which includes the following titles:

  • Steel Sheet Products Monitor - covering slab, hot-rolled coil, cold-rolled coil, HDG sheet and EG sheet.
  • Steel Long Products Monitor - covering billet, wire rod, rebar, merchant bar and structurals.
  • Stainless Steel Monitor - covering hot-rolled and cold-rolled
  • Steel Metallics Monitor - covering scrap, pig iron and DRI/HBI.

In addition to containing CRU's authoritative price assessments each Monitor also includes statistical tables showing the main market fundamentals and written analysis from CRU's team of 30 full time steel analysts. In addition, Monitor subscribers also receive access to the CRUspi Futures service. This service shows forecasts for the eight main CRUspi indices over the next 18-24 months.
