  • A “wait and see” attitude to purchasing characterises distributors and traders in much of Asia, encouraging producers both in China and Japan to reduce production.

  • By contrast, a pricing rally in Europe has stimulated mill orders in recent weeks, to such an extent that base-price rises are back on the agenda in the larger consuming markets.
