Stainless Steel Flat Products
2008 November Issue
Production cuts to increase as prices fall further

• Demand and prices have been falling across Asia, causing producers to cut back production. Further outages are expected before the end of the year.

• Mill orders declined and service centres also struggled in October but even as mills announce significant production cuts, prices are expected to fall further in November.

• Dire US apparent consumption and supply outstripping demand means that mills have started to build up depot stocks. Base prices fell as depot stocks were heavily discounted.
