Industry coverage

Both parts of the study will be based on our database of plant profiles in all major producing regions, including estimates of recently completed projects. Plants consuming natural gas, naphtha, fuel oil, petcoke and coal are modelled.  Furthermore, users can input plants of their choice in any country into the Model.

Costs in the Nitrogen Industry
is a unique tool for analysing the cost structure of the industry. It will allow you to examine operating and production costs on a plant-by-plant basis.

As a subscriber, you will receive:

  • An integrated database of all key regions, 2000-2020;
  • Detailed cost profiles for 107 key nitrogen fertilizer plants, including recently completed projects.
  • A “bottoms up” approach to calculating costs, starting with the production process and equipment at each operation.
  • Complete range of cost classifications, including site operating, conversion, variable, interest on working capital, sustaining capital and general overhead.
  • A macroeconomic and freight database covering all major producing countries and trade routes.
  • Analysis of the key factors affecting the viability of existing plants and driving future investment and re-investment, specifically feedstock costs and currency effects.
  • An analysis of urea vs ABC competitiveness in China.

The Nitrogen Cost Service includes both the Nitrogen Cost Model and the Nitrogen Cost Report, which can be purchased as a combined package or individually.

The Cost Model
The Cost Model provides a detailed database of process plants, input costs and capacities for each plant. It allows users to simulate how changes in product mix, capital cost, maintenance costs and labour efficiency would impact upon their competitive position. It also allows users to examine the impact on competitiveness of changes in exchange rates, interest costs and input prices for feedstock and energy.

The Cost Report
The Cost Report gives a very broad coverage of the structure of the regional and product markets. There is commentary on unique aspects of the industry in each of those markets and what changes are expected to take place in the competitive environment. Issues such as raw material cost and supply and product substitution are also covered thoroughly. The report is based on the output from the model and cost curves and individual plant profiles are thus incorporated in the report.
