Zinc Monitor
Aug 2010 Issue
Bounced

Zinc has extended its recovery since hitting its low at the beginning of June.  China’s producers have unwound their cutbacks as a result (its miners are also not stockpiling concentrate).  However, market participants find it difficult to believe that today’s price can be sustained given the stock overhang.  In the meantime, low treatment charges are still squeezing Chinese smelters’ margins.
