Tight and quiet
  • The spot concentrates market tightness continues during the northern hemisphere winter. There has been little trade over the past few weeks as miners have almost no spare material, the Chilean summer holiday was interrupted by the earthquakes (driven attention somewhere else) and availability has been tight in China.

  • The Chilean earthquake had minimum impact on copper production and in the copper market.

  • Scrap discounts in all major markets have narrowed over the past month as availability remains tight and Chinese buying has picked up following the Spring Festival holiday.
