CRU's Electric Power Team provides a wide range of services in the field of electric power, including studies, presentations and advice.  Its staff has a strong understanding of the technical and economic concepts driving the power business, and has applied this understanding across a wide variety of assignments in recent years.

The team was founded in 1998 to capitalise on CRU's extensive historical involvement in industrial power supplies and energy industry analysis.  Investigating the fields of electricity liberalisation and the electricity supply industry, especially in terms of bulk power supplies to power-intensive consumers.

The Team's customers include some of the world's leading generators and electricity suppliers, industrial power consumers, fuel suppliers and governments.  The client base includes the following companies: Atel, Alcoa, EdF, Electrabel, Elkem, Glencore, Hydro Quebec, Ingwe, RWE, Statkraft, TVA, TXUEurope and Vattenfall.  These clients are able to draw both on our input from models, reports and presentations as well as our extensive database of industry knowledge.

In particular, we have invested considerably in tools to analyse and forecast wholesale power markets.  Based on this work, we have also carved out a niche in analysing power supply arrangements to industry.  In all our work, we are able furthermore to draw on the accumulated experience of CRU in the power-intensive, basic commodity industries it serves, especially aluminium, chemicals, ferroalloys and steel.  The Team is also able to draw on CRU's associate company, CRU Strategies, for specialist assignments requiring management consultancy skills.
