Extrusions demand takes crunching hit

 

  • Despite a modest uptick in orders in September from August’s anaemic level, year-on-year growth is still deep in negative territory.  Given the broadly bearish outlook for the key construction and transportation markets, we do not anticipate a near term uptick in demand either

  • Order levels in Western Europe have retreated further, with the Italian and UK markets facing the brunt of the downturn.  Demand is declining across the key end use sectors, amid deteriorating construction, transport and engineering demand, while the slide in the LME has fed through into lower product prices.

  • The Chinese extrusions market remains flat with slowing demand from the automotive industry now adding to construction weakness.  Exports continue to slide in the face of the strong yuan but more significantly, worsening conditions in key export markets.
